Medical students sharpen physical examination skills by practicing on each other. The IERC offers faculty the opportunity to prepare students for a professional world under simulated situations before going into practice settings.

The IERC houses 18 exam rooms monitored by closed circuit cameras for viewing and video recording in the IERC Media Room. The technology allows faculty and students to video record student practices and evaluation sessions followed by self, peer, and faculty assessment of performance.

Medical students practice using the panoptic ophthalmocope. The IERC as a whole is equipped for both wired and wireless electronic communications and offers access and training in the use of clinical simulators, such as SimMan (a patient simulator) and CathSim (a system to practice vascular catheterization).

Additional equipment (such as hand-held computers, specialized diagnostic equipment, manikins, etc.) may be brought into or stored at the Center.
